Chemical Allergies on the Rise

When people say they have allergies what is the first things that come to mind? Pollen is one of them. Pet allergies are another big one. Chemical allergies are often not the first things that come to mind. However, chemical allergies are becoming more and more common as the technology age rises. Have you ever heard of an allergy to formaldehyde? How about an allergy to acrylic?

While many people with allergies to pollen have medication that they take or those with pet allergies simply don’t own pets to avoid their reactions. Can you imagine what it would be like to be allergic to a chemical substance that is in a lot of the things that you touch every day? For example Formaldehyde is found in Dyes, nail polish, cavity wall insulation, detergents, etc.

About two years ago, my hands broke out in what is known as “Contact Dermatitis.” Yep, that’s right, I was having a reaction to something that I was touching. I took the patch test and found out that I was indeed allergic to acrylic. At first, I was confused. What was I touching that had acrylic in it? That was when I did a little research and discovered that almost everything has acrylic in it. More than just the nail industry, acrylic is in paint for our walls. Certain trophies are made of acrylic. Even dentistry uses acrylic in the production of crowns. Acrylic is even used in certain tapes and glues.
