DNA Testing Review

DNA testing is by far the most widely used testing to determine a biological link between one another. Persons that are related will share some common DNA and therefore DNA testing will seek to analyse those common genes and identify if there is a biological relationship or otherwise.

There are many types of DNA tests, however the most common is the paternity test. This test will compare the relationship between an alleged father and a child to confirm if he is the biological father of the child or not. If the man is the biological father of the child, then the paternity test will give a result of up to 99.999% probabilty of paternity. If the man is not the father, he will be excluded with a 100% certainty.

Performing the DNA test is relatively simple and straightforward and can now be done from the comfort of your own  home. It is not possible to order a DNA testing kit directly from the internet. It will be sent to you at home and through the use of oral swabs you can collect the saliva samples required to do the analysis. Once the swabs are sent back to the laboratory the results will be issued within a short period of time between 1-2 weeks.

There are other forms of DNA testing available including relationship testing and DNA forensic testing. Relationship testing can be performed to confirm the biological relationship between siblings, aunts/uncles and grandparents. The test will give an indication of the possibile biological relationship between these parties. This type of test is useful when one of the parents is not available or willing to participate in a DNA test.

DNA Forensic testing can be used to process samples that are non-standard such as hair, blood and semen. It is now widely used by the police and other law enforcement agencies to help solve crimes by identifying possible suspects.
